It’s genius firstly, because the flavor variations in this recipe are literary endless. Throw in some cocoa powder, its chocolate or you want cookies and cream flavor, throw in some crushed oreo biscuits, viola, cookies and cream ice cream it is, it’s that simple, yes! Secondly, it only requires three simple ingredients to make some awesomlicious treat for your family and friends. So, kill the summer heat with this killer mangolicious ice cream treat.
As you can see, I slightly mixed the mango chunks into the cream mix for the marble effect. If you want a homogeneous yellow look, add in a drop of yellow food color and puree the mangoes to paste before folding it into the cream mix.
This recipe is pretty basic and simple, so it can be a fun activity for the kids too. Let them do all the work, sit back and relax, get a massage while you devour this awesome summer treat. This is a complete win-win recipe, because the kids will be happy to make the recipe and you’ll be happy to see the kids busy and happy, hence a win-win recipe. Depending on how independent and careful your child is, I’m guessing this recipe can be easily replicated by children aged ten and above.
Both fresh or frozen fruits can be added to this recipe to create endless possibilities. Since mango season is in full swing so I thought I should make it with mangoes first. And the results were awesomelicious. It’s a super dreamy, creamy, melt in mouth ice cream for you and me. This recipe is definitively a keeper. Would love to try it with peanut butter and caramel sauce, yum!
Mangoes: A Powerhouse of Minerals and Vitamins
All hail the “king of fruits!” Mangoes are my happy place, I can eat mangoes all day and not complain a wee bit. Some people consider mangoes unhealthy, apart from the awesomelicious silky texture of its juicy flesh and the divine sweetness, mangoes are packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants. However because of their high-fructose value, mangoes just need to be consumed in moderation. Wikideia it to know more about the nutritional value of mangoes. #mangoesarenotevil
Back to the recipe. I found this recipe on Veena Azmanov’s blog and fell in love instantly. It was so simple and easy i could hardly believe my eyes. My brain whispered “You just have to try it, it looks like a complete party pleasure, I’m telling you.” Anyhow, as I mentioned the quality of the products can either make or break a recipe, so here are the brands that I used to create this wonderful recipe.
The Ingredients: Where to buy them
For those living in Lahore, you can get the whip topping I used in this recipe from pioneer store, main market. Jalal son’s in main market also keep it. if you can’t find it, look for any whipping cream with milkfat 38% and above, so regular Olpers and Milkpak cream are less likely to give this creamy consistency . For more info on creams and their milkfat ratio, see my La-la land of cream post. Polac condensed milk can be bought from any store.
- Whipping cream------------250 ml I used Rich's Whip topping, Gold label, bought from Pioneer store
- Condensed milk------------ 120 ml, ½ cup I used Polac
- Mangoes--------------------- 200 g or 2 cups cut up in small chunks
- Slightly mash chunks of mangoes with a folk and set aside.
- Whip cream to soft peaks and add condensed milk, continue whipping to hard peaks. It'll be three times in volume now.
- Fold in one large dollop of cream into the mango mashed chunks/puree and stir gently.
- Fold the rest of the mangoes into the cream mix.
- The texture will be smooth and silky at this stage. Pour it into a clean, dry bowl, cover and pop it into the freezer for at least 4 hours or until set.
